Advising
An internship in the advising area will provide interns with the opportunity to learn about the study abroad program selection advising process. After an initial training period including shadowing experienced advisers, interns will be assigned to a weekly 3 or 4 hour program selection advising shift.
- Time requirement – 3-4 hour per week to do an advising shift. Must be set hours.
- Semester requirement – 2 semesters
- Number of placements – 1 or 2
- Additional requirements: previous advising experience and knowledge of student development theory helpful.
Curriculum Integration
An internship in the curriculum integration area will provide interns with the opportunity to learn about the university’s effort to internationalize the curriculum. Interns in this area will engage in projects which frame study abroad from a curricular perspective such as researching study abroad programs for curricular fit and updating a literature review on research about study abroad.
- Time requirement – minimum 5 hours per week
- Semester requirement – 1
- Number of placements – 1 or 2
Curriculum Integration: Evaluation
An internship in the evaluation area of curriculum integration will provide interns with the opportunity to learn about the on-going evaluation of the university’s efforts to internationalize the campus. Projects include data analysis of on-going curriculum integration surveys and report writing, updating the evaluation section of the Learning Abroad Center website, undertaking possible focus groups or group interviews, and preparing a historical compilation of data analysis and reports.
- Time requirement – 5 hours per week
- Semester requirement – 2 semesters
- Number of placements – 1
- Additional requirements – completion of at least EPSY 5261, preferred minor in evaluation studies
Programming
An internship in the programming area will provide interns with the opportunity to learn about the administration of study abroad programs including projects related to program development, management, and promotion for the university’s own study abroad programs.
- Time requirements – 5-10 hours per week
- Semester requirement – 1 semester
- Number of placements - 1 or 2
Multicultural Students & Study Abroad
An internship in this area will provide interns with the opportunity to learn about diversity issues in study abroad and the work of the Multicultural Study Abroad Group. Projects include compiling and analyzing the Diversity Issues in Study Abroad survey, report writing, and presenting findings to LAC staff and Multicultural Study Abroad Group.
- Time requirements – 5 hours per week
- Semester requirement – 1 semester
- Number of placements – 1

Current enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Minnesota.
