Should I get my Master's? Should I get my PhD?
Many jobs in our field require Master’s degrees, while many directorships require PhDs. While some jobs are available at the bachelor’s level, these are increasingly few, and higher degrees may open doors to positions and expertise levels not attainable with only a bachelor’s.
Among the veterans of the field, you may find an endless variety of backgrounds from Chemistry to Medieval History to academic studies in International Relations. However, as the field matures and becomes increasingly competitive, programs specific to international education can be a helpful key to specialization. Meanwhile, many in the field have pursued advanced degrees in varied areas such as Higher Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, Business, Languages, Humanities, and even Finance or Counseling! The field continues to value those with a variety of backgrounds.
