Does the Learning Abroad Center charge an agency or issuing fee?
No. We offer the lowest prices possible and do not charge any additional fees, plus we offer FREE 2-day Fedex delivery within the continental US.
How do I purchase a rail pass?
Visit our office in 230 Heller Hall (map) or download and print an order form. Use the rail pass price sheet to determine the cost of your pass or ask an adviser in our office. Orders may be brought in person, mailed, or taken over the phone. For security purposes, orders may not be faxed or emailed.
If you are unsure of your travel plans before you depart for Europe, consider leaving a price sheet and order form with a family member or friend and have them order the pass on your behalf. We will ship the pass to them, and they can send it on to you in Europe.
Which countries are covered by rail passes?
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switerland, and United Kingdom. Seventeen countries are covered by the Eurail Pass. Travelers can choose three, four, or five countries out of twenty-two countries for the Eurail Selectpass
What types of passes are available?
Use the links on the right-hand side of this page to learn more about Eurailpasses, Eurail Selectpasses, Eurostar tickets, Regional Passes, Dual Country Passes, and Individual Country Passes.
Are student discounts available?
Student discounts are not available, even with an International Student Identity Card. More affordable, youth second-class rail passes are available for those under 26 years of age. These passes offer significant savings compared to first-class passes.
How long will my rail pass be valid?
Pass validity depends on the type of pass purchased. Consecutive travel passes allow passengers to travel every day for five days up to three months. With Flexipasses and Eurail Selectpasses, passengers travel a specified number of days in a two-month time period, ranging from four to fifteen days.
You must validate your pass within six months of the date it was issued. Before boarding your first train, you must have your pass validated at a ticket booth.
I am not sure of my travel plans. Can I wait to buy a rail pass when I arrive in Europe?
It is possible to buy some rail passes in select locations in Europe. Prices, however, are higher than those available in in the US, and agency or issuing fees may be added.
What is a Saverpass?
Saverpasses are discounted, first-class tickets for two or more travelers who will be traveling together throughout. One shared ticket is issued to the passholders. The two pass holders do not have to travel together at all times. However, because only one pass is issued, the person traveling must have the pass with him or her, and it is not possible for both passholders to make separate journeys simultaneously.
Is it possible to sleep on the train?
Night trains may have sleepers (1-3 beds), couchettes (4 or 6 beds), or sleeperettes (reclining chairs). Reservations are required. The cost varies depening on the type of sleeping arrangement and the train.
If I take an overnight train, will I have to use two days on my pass?
If you have not yet used your pass on a particular day and depart on a DIRECT night train after 7:00 pm, you can enter just the following day on your Flexipass or Eurail Selectpass. If your train departs before 7:00 pm or if you have to make a train change before midnight, you must enter both days on your pass.
Do I need a reservation to travel on a train?
A rail pass will allow you to board a train, but it does not guarantee you a seat. Depending on the type of train and the time of year, you might need to make a reservation. Reservations are required for high-speed trains, sleepers, and couchettes and are recommended for other trains during high season (May–Sep) and holidays. Reservations can be made at any train station. The Learning Abroad Center does not make reservations (except for Eurostar tickets).
What happens if my rail pass is lost or stolen?
If your pass is lost or stolen, you will not be reissued a new pass. You will have to purchase point to point tickets to complete your travel. You can protect your pass from loss or theft by purchasing a Rail Protection Plan for your pass.
Please contact the Learning Abroad Center with any additional questions regarding rail passes.
