Orientation Dates & Locations

Orientation will be conducted in two parts: an online orientation, which is mandatory for all students, and an in-person, program-specific session. You will receive more information about the online orientation via email. Failure to complete the online orientation will impact your ability to go abroad.

Please see below for tentative dates and times for your in-person session. You will be notified of the official date and time via email. Students living outside the Twin Cities who are unable to attend this session will receive an orientation packet in the mail approximately one week after the in-person session is held.

Program Fees

The program fee includes tuition, study abroad and registration fees, room and board with a Mexican family, international health insurance, and one excursion. Airfare, any independent travel, and personal expenses are extra.

Students from other institutions add $850 for study that includes a semester program; $250 for winter break, May session, and summer session programs. Students enrolled for multiple terms only have to pay one non-University of Minnesota fee.

*Students participating in multiple May/summer sessions receive a $110 discount on the program fee for each additional session. For example, the program fee for two summer sessions is $3,350 ($1,730+$1,620) and for three sessions is $4,970 ($1,730+$1,620+$1,620).

The program fees and fees for subsequent years are based on estimates and may change depending on international economic factors.

Payments
A non-refundable deposit is due upon acceptance into the program and is applied toward the program fee. You will receive email notification from the Learning Abroad Center that the balance of the program fees have been billed to your student finance account approximately one month before the University of Minnesota term begins (August for fall semester and academic year; December for winter break and spring semester; and May for May session and summer session). You will receive official notification of billing and payment due dates from the Office of Student Finance (OSF) via your University of Minnesota email account. All payments are made to the OSF.

Please note that the University of Minnesota requires all non-degree students, including students from other institutions who are participating in a University of Minnesota study abroad program, to pay their University of Minnesota study abroad charges in full no later than the first billing due date for the term. Payment must be received, not postmarked (if sent by mail), by the first billing due date, or you will be cancelled from the study abroad program, will not receive credit, and cannot be re-enrolled in the program.

For further details on your financial responsibilities, see the Know Before You Go handbook (pdf) and the Learning Abroad Center's Cancellation Policy.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for more than $500,000 in study abroad scholarships. Visit the financial resources web page for additional information on using financial aid and scholarships for study abroad.
