Description Semester & Academic Year
Learn about themes of tradition and development in Chile and Latin
America while living in Santiago, a city of grand avenues, lively
markets, and parks. This program is ideal for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills, learn more about Chile and the Andean region, and participate in service-learning or internships.
Health Studies Summer program
This program is ideal for advanced Spanish students in pre-med, nursing, pharmacy, public health, hospital management, and other health-related areas of study. Students will gain practical and direct experience in Santiago's health care system through an observational clinical internship.
Curriculum Semester and academic year students enroll in a 4-credit Spanish language course and choose from a wide variety of courses in anthropology, art history,
business, environmental studies, economics, history, literature,
political science, international relations, and sociology. Regular
university courses are available at the Universidad de Chile and the
Pontifícia Universidad Católica. Take advantage of
a service-learning project in connection with any of the program
courses. Internships are available in business, the arts, and governmental
agencies. Instruction in Spanish by Chilean faculty. Typical credits:
30 for academic year; 15 for fall or spring semester.
Health Studies Summer program students enroll in a clinical internship, which provides an opportunity to observe patient care at local clinics and public health organizations. In addition, students take Spanish forHealth Practitioners, which is designed for students in health sciences. Typical credits: 8 for summer.

Open to University
of Minnesota sophomores and above with 3.0 GPA and 4 semesters of college-level
Spanish.
Application deadline is in mid-March
for summer, fall semester, or academic year and
mid-October for spring semester or calendar
year.

With good academic planning this program can fit well into
the degree plans for many majors.Search for courses that fulfill Liberal Education
Requirements or submit a course you want to take for review. Study Abroad

Estimated Cost Students from the University of Minnesota participating
on this program are charged a program fee that is inclusive of the cosponsored
program's fee and a University of Minnesota fee to cover the cost of application
processing, advising services, orientation, course registration, grade transfer
and posting for resident credit, assistance with financial aid, and international
health insurance. This administrative fee ranges from $500 to $1,500 and varies
by program. The cosponsored program's portion of the program fee can be used to
assist in estimating cost and is available at the program site linked below. In
most cases, airfare, field trips, meals, and personal expenses are additional.
