Participating Universities

More than 88 Chinese Institutions of higher education in 20 provinces and autonomous cities are authorized by the Ministry of Education of China to accept international students to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship program. The China Center recommends several universities; if the applicant's research or academic goals require that he or she attend a university other than those that are recommended, the applicant may propose an alternative university to the selection committee.

Description
The University of Minnesota China Center, in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Washington DC, is pleased to offer a full academic-year scholarship to a University of Minnesota undergraduate or graduate student for study at a university in mainland China. The scholarship covers tuition and room and board, and pays a small monthly stipend to cover books and incidental expenses.

Curriculum
Curriculum differs across universities but most undergraduate students focus on Chinese language and culture.

Application

The China Center application deadline for this program is March 1. Applications are reviewed by a committee and applicants may also interview with the committee. As there is commonly only one scholarship for University of Minnesota students, this program is competitive and students are encouraged to apply for other options in China in case they are not awarded the scholarship.

Graduate Student Eligibility

Graduate applicants must have completed a minimum of three years of Chinese language instruction or demonstrate the ability to complete graduate level study or research in Chinese

Academic Fit with a University of Minnesota Degree Plan
With good academic planning this program can fit well into the degree plans for many majors.
Search for courses that fulfill Liberal Education Requirements or submit a course you want to take for review. Study Abroad in Your Major advising sheets explain why study abroad is important for a major, indicate what the department wants students to consider when selecting a program, and provide academic planning hints. This program may appear as a special recommendation on an advising sheet. If your major is not listed, talk to an adviser—this program may still fit your academic, career, and professional goals.

Estimated Cost
Program fees include tuition, fees, and international health insurance. Housing, meals, airfare, and personal expenses are additional. Use the budget estimate (pdf) for this program to help plan for the estimate cost of the program. Participating students receive updated cost information as soon as it is available.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad. In addition, University of Minnesota students are eligible for more than $500,000 in study abroad scholarships. Visit the financial resources web page for additional information on using financial aid and scholarships for study abroad.
