Apply Now for a Work, Intern, or Volunteer Program
As you research program options, you may notice that the distinctions between work, intern, and volunteer programs are not clear. Similar programs can sometimes be grouped in different categories, making your search a bit confusing. Rather than focus your searching on one specific type of program, we suggest searching work, intern, and volunteer options as you might find the best fitting program under a different heading.
Work Programs
- Participants are paid
- Positions are most common in non-career related work in the service and tourism sector or teaching English
- Generally do not require the specific skills often necessary for individual internships
- Not eligible for academic credit
- Not eligible for financial aid
Internship Programs
- Are often unpaid, although more technical internships and some others may be paid
- Tend to be more directly related to your field of study or career
- Require a skill set or knowledge base particular to that position
- May or may not be for academic credit
- May or may not be eligible for financial aid (depending on whether or not they are done for academic credit)
Volunteer Programs
- Rarely paid
- May or may not be related to your academic interests
- Generally do not require specific skills or previous experience
- Academic credit is not available unless a volunteer experience is done as part of a directed study or research project
- May or may not be eligible for financial aid (depending on whether or not they are done for academic credit)
