For all Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) programs, it is important to remember that IES will be your primary source of information regarding the program. Please refer to the IES website, publications, and IES program coordinators for program specific information.
What should I do before I apply?
You are encouraged to use the resources available to you: visit the Learning Abroad Center and speak with a program staff member, check out the IES website and catalog, talk to your IES Regional Representative, and ask your college and advisers about degree requirements.
What should I send to IES and what should I hand in to the Learning Abroad Center?
You will send in almost the entire application to the IES Chicago office. Please refer to the IES Apply Now page for complete information.
Do I have to be an undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota to participate?
Yes.
What does it mean when I receive a "nomination email" from the Learning Abroad Center?
This means your application has been forwarded to IES. You will receive notification of your acceptance directly from IES.
When should I expect to hear back from IES regarding my acceptance?
You should hear from IES within three weeks after your complete application is received in Chicago.
Who will I work with for all my pre-departure planning?
You will work with the Learning Abroad Center and IES.
How many credits will I receive and what kind of credit will I get?
IES requires a courseload of 15 credits per semester. Summer students take 6-9 credits. You will receive resident credit.
How long will it take for my credits to show up on my transcript?
It can take 12-16 weeks after the program ends.
How will I know if these credits will count toward my degree requirements?
You must complete an Academic Planning Form. The process of planning and advising will inform you about how program credits fulfill your degree requirements.
Can I use my financial aid for this program?

Can I use my scholarships for this program?
Scholarships can usually be applied. Check with the scholarship provider.
Are there scholarships that I can apply for?

Yes, you will receive international insurance through the Learning Abroad Center.
Do I need to keep my US insurance while I'm abroad?
