While on study abroad through the University of Minnesota, you are temporarily admitted as a non-degree seeking student.
Financial Aid Eligibility and Limits
Non-University of Minnesota students are not eligible for any financial aid from the University of Minnesota for study abroad.
If you are a degree-seeking student at another institution, check with your home school's study abroad and financial aid office for details on whether you are eligible for financial aid for your University of Minnesota study abroad program.
- Complete any necessary steps to maintain your degree-seeking status and get your study abroad program approved.
- You will likely need to complete a consortium agreement, which you may obtain from your home university and send to the Learning Abroad Center for signature.

Private Loans
- The University of Minnesota OneStop web site has information about private loans that you may be eligible for as a non-degree seeking student.
- Consult with a University of Minnesota One Stop counselor about which private loans are available to non-degree seeking students or consult the loan providers.
Scholarships
- Check with your home university to find out if you are eligible for their scholarships.
- Consult the Learning Abroad Center external scholarships database.
- Apply early!
