Craig took a total of ten classes
at the university, all relating to
his interest in West African culture.
His experience abroad changed his perspective about
the importance of people and
a sense of community.

Craig, an African Studies and French major, was able to continue his research on the region of West Africa by studying abroad through the IRSEP Scholarship Exchange Program in Senegal. He lived for ten months in the city of Dakar with a Senegalese family where he said he felt fully integrated and welcomed. “The family was very nice…I ate well, the food was really good”.

Craig took a total of ten classes at the university, all relating to his interest in West African culture. He said that overall his experience abroad has changed his perspective about the importance of people and a sense of community.
